Disaster
-------------------------------------------
On April 24th, 2006, I was in an apartment building on NY's Upper East Side. While sitting on the terrace of my friend's apartment, I noticed some smoke rising all the way crosstown.
By the time I took out my camera, the bit of smoke had turned into a huge scary column of smoke. Only later did I find out that the smoke resulted from a fire that was caused by an explosion of a gas tank on top of a Brooklyn-based Police Station.
Because of some visual similarities to the tragic events of 9-11 (look at the two tall buildings close together on the left side of the shot), I decided to convert this overly realistic picture into a "movie-scene shot".
After all, what could have been disasterous, turned out to be an unfortunate incident.
